Thanksgiving Day is Coming, GOBBLE, GOBBLE!
October 23, 2006
The weekend of October 15 was perfect for South Florida participants as our first cold front came through and 800 dedicated athletes competed in the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon, one of the toughest races on the East Coast. Congrats to all the finishers who made the challenging swim from Escape Island and finished the race.
Now, it's time to focus on running season as South Florida's favorite 5K and 10K approaches on Thanksgiving Morning. At Run Miami, we are proud to see that with your help and the help of our great sponsors, we are truly making running popular again, inviting new runners, first timers, families and more to get shoes on to run, walk, or jog 5K's year round, and one day, the ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon.

The FIT Miami Foundation and ING have kicked off the second year of the ING Run for Something Better program, aimed at supporting physical education and preventing childhood obesity in the children of South Florida. The 15 week program is optional for all middle schools in Miami Dade County Public Schools and promotes running with the goal of completing a marathon over time. Participating children will complete their marathon during the Final Mile, a 1.2 mile run held the morning of the ING Miami Marathon where over 1,500 children are expected to run with teachers, principals, and other children. Good luck to all the children and parents of children as we support the effort to promote running and healthy lifestyles for the children of South Florida.
